Transit visa. We have a flight to Beijing booked which arrives on 02/03/2019

we were planning on getting the train to Shanghai after a few days in Beijing and then flying from Shanghai to Tokyo on 07/03/2019. Would it be possible to do this on transit gs?

I have read a few different things on websites. Once arriving in Beijing, are we allowed to explore for the 72 hours, or are we required to stay in the airport?

Also, are we allowed to leave China at Shanghai, even though we entered it at Beijing Airport? I read something which said we had to exit from the same airport we entered by if using a transit visa.

Thank you, any help would be so appreciated!

You must obtain a visa in advance. Your itinerary definitely does not qualify for transit without visa. The 144 hours TWOV allows you to transit in Beijing, or Shanghai, but not both.
