About:BJ01-02

US citizen flying from NYC R/T to Burma with a 36 hour layover in Beijing.

Do I need a transit visa if I want to leave the airport and visit Beijing?
What should I see in Beijing in that short amount of time?

You are eligible for the 72-hour visa free transit and can apply for the permit at Beijing airport. And as far as I am concerned, you can go to visit the must-see attractions in Beijing like the Great Wall or Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City if your time permits.
