About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

frankfurt - shanghai - tokyo and then back from osaka - beijing - frankfurt

ist it possible to take the 72 (or ist it 14 hours) transit visum for shanghai and on the route back home for beijing if the flights are booked seperately?
is there any problem for german or croatian citizens?

That is ok as long as you don't have any landing in China other than what you listed. Bring copy of confirmation email containing the ticket number. You will need that to prove you are in transit. If your stop in China is under 24 hours you will only get the 24 hour transit. You have to be schedule to stop for over 24 hours to get the 144 hour transit. Just be aware in shanghai you are not guaranteed to leave the airport on stops of less than 24 hours. so if not over night with hotel its possible you could spend the day hanging out at the airport before the next flight.
