About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying from Vancouver to Shanghai via Taipei, then onward to Tokyo

We are flying from Vancouver to Shanghai via Taipei. Spending 4 nights in Shanghai and then onward to Tokyo for 14 nights before returning to Vancouver. I believe this qualifies for the 144 hour visa-free permit. Am I correct?

If you fly Taipei - Shanghai - Tokyo then you're fine for the 144h twov. as long as you don't have a stop in Taiwan on your flight from Shanghai to Tokyo.
