We plan to extend our stay in Shanghai after the cruise ends, do we need visa

We are US citizens, we are on a cruise that will stop at Tinanjin port for 3 days, then it will end in Shanghai on a Saturday morning. We plan to stay in Shanghai for 3 nights and fly home on Tuesday afternoon. Do we need to apply for entry permit or any kind of permit for our stay?
