144 day transit visa on arrival Shanghai

My wife and I are holidaying in Sri Lanka from Canada for three weeks then flying to Shanghai to holiday for 5 days before flying home to Canada. We understand the travel restriction limited to the Shanghai and area. Can we obtain a 144 day transit permit on arrival or do we need a full entry permit before we leave Canada? Do we need to be finger printed either way?
