About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need a Tourist Visa or will I qualify for the 24-hour TWOV of China?

We are US citizens traveling to take a 7 day cruise out of Shanghai on March 21-28, 2019. We are flying in from Chicago,IL to Beijing(landing at 4:35pm on March 20). I then have a 4hr layover in Beijing, which will then continue onto Shanghai, landing at 10:40pm on March 20. We will be staying in a hotel in Shanghai the night of Mar 20, then onto our Cruise, which departs the port of Shanghai at 4:30pm on March 21.
The cruise travels to different ports in Japan(Osaka,Kobe,Tokyo) until returning to Shanghai on March 28 at 7:00am. We would like to take a 5hr tour of Shanghai after cruise, which will then take us to Shanghai airport for our flight home that departs at 9:55pm on March 28. It then lands in Beijing at 12:20am on March 29. I then have a 12hr layover in Beijing, until my connecting for Chicago, IL, leaves at 12:15pm on March 29. Hope this clarifies my Itinerary.

For the first part you don't need a visa as your stay in China is shortly after 24h, for the seond part you need one as your total time in China is over 24h.

Get a 10 years visa and you avoid any problems.

If I change my return flight to leave Shanghai at 5:50pm, with a connecting flight in Shenzhen departing at 11:30pm to Los Angeles, CA on March 28th, will this be good for the 24hr TWOV
