About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

My wife & I are both over 70 & have booked to holiday in China in April 2019

Q: Whilst I know that we don't need our fingerprints taken, can we apply for an 'L' from the Chinese Embassy by post ? ie Without attending the Embassy.
