About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hong Kong to Beijing...

I am flying to visit my American parents who are living in Hong Kong. I would like to visit Beijing and Xi'an. Will I qualify for the 72 hour free transit for both cities? Or will I need to chose only one city to visit on this exemption? I am a little confused on if I qualify for for the 72 hour, 144 hour twov or if I need to purchase a China Visa to make this trip.

If you want to use 72h twov in mainland China, you need to chose only one city to visit. You are supposed to apply for a visa before your trip.

So if I I wanted to also visit Macau, I should go there only AFTER returning from a 72 TWOV in Beijing?

If your travel itinerary would be USA-Beijing(within 6 days)-HK-Xi'an(within 3 days)-Macau-USA, you can use the free transit exemption. You don't need a visa then.
