About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

us citizens. Arriving to Shangai in a cruise. (last stop of the cruise). leaving by airplane

HI...getting to shangai by a cruise ship (last stop), and going to Japan next day. (less than 24 hours). Do we need entry permit? We heard a couple of us citizen stopping in Shangai were taking out of the cruise before the stop, because they do not have a visa....kind of scary to loose a lot of money...thanks

IF the port before Shanghai is also in Japan (thus looked at as Japan > Shanghai > Japan) you will need a visa. If the port before Shanghai is also in mainland China then you would need a visa.
