About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does this qualify? From US to PEK on Delta with two nights stay in PEK.

Then on day four PEK to HAN on Cathay Pacific with a short layover in HKG. Would this qualify for the 144 hour transit without visa? Not sure if the layover on HKG or the separate ticket reservation on Cathay is a deal breaker. Thanks!

That qualifies. Separate tickets and separate carriers are fine. HKG is treated as an international destination from mainland China for immigration purposes. As long as your passport is from one of the 53 listed countries, then you're good to go.
