About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

can we apply for a chinese visa without definite travel date?

We (as family of 4) will travel only when needed since my father-in-law have unstable health condition and we cannot stay in china for long.

That's possible. If you can get an invitation letter from China, you don't have to provide the round trip air tickets and hotel reservation for the application.
