About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

USA to Beijing to Jakarta

My husband and I are traveling from NYC to Jakarta, with a 16 hour layover in Beijing. I've been reading conflicting information about transit visas online, and don't want to get there and be surprised. We land at 6:40pm on 11/21 at PEK, and have already booked a hotel for the night. We wanted to go straight to The Great Wall in the morning, then directly to PEK for our flight to Jakarta on 11/22 at 3pm. Will we be okay for the 24hr direct transit?
