About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

USA-PVG-HKG

Similar to the last question... I purchased a R/T ticket to Shanghai (USA-PVG-USA) on AA, and a R/T ticket to Hong Kong in the middle (PVG-HKG-PVG) on Cathay. I will essentially be doing 4 nights in Shanghai, followed by 4 nights in HK, one last night in Shanghai, then home. In my mind, I see this as USA-Shanghai-HK, and then HK-Shanghai-USA. Does it matter that I have 2 round-trip tickets, one R/T to and from the USA, and one R/T in the middle to HK? Does this qualify for the 144-hour no-visa rule?

Thank you! So, just to clarify, I am eligible for the 144-hour free transit?
