My resident permit is about to expire

I live in Shanghai and my resident permit is about to expire. I want to travel around China before I start my new job after Chinese New Year. Is it possible to go down to the PSB and get a tourist visa? What documentation would I need?

You can try to do that, and you may need to provide your passport, the completed application form, a recently-taken bareheaded color photo, residence permit, accommodation arrangement and the return ticket as well as other requirements.
