Seoul-Beijing-Seoul is not a transit of China. You need a visa or different flights.

Alright, what about Sydney - BJ - Seoul? Would it apply for 72 hours transit?

Sydney - Beijing - Seoul is fine for the 144h twov. (there's no 72h twov in Beijing anymore).

If you have another stop in Chengdu your transit time is limited to 24 hours.
