Booking trains with expired passport

Hi, I need to book trains for July 2019 and the booking requires passport number. My future wife will change passport one month before due to surname change as we are getting married in June. Is it possible to book with ID card or present the expired passport at the train station?

The names and passport number used for booking need to be 100% the same as the one you will use for ticket collection. If you will surely have the old passport in hand, it is OK to use it for booking and collection.

The ticket would only begin for sale 30 days within departure date, thus you can also book the ticket after you get the updated passport. Hope this can help you.

Thank you for your reply! The old passport will be in hand but will have 'EXPIRED' marked on the front page. Do you think this will be a problem?

Also if we book trains around 20 days before (Beijing-Xian-Chengdu-Yangshuo-Shenzen) are they usually fully booked or is it easy to find seats on all trains?

It is more recommended to use the updated passport information to buy the ticket as you will get it before departure. During summer holiday, the trip Beijing-Xian-Chengdu is usually fine to get tickets and there are many rides a day for your option. For the trip in and out of Yangshuo, the tickets are always under great needs. If the tickets are not available at the booking time, you may consider other transfer options. Or you may have a try of using our paper ticket delivery service. With paper ticket in hand, it is fine at the station by using old passports.
