vising china during returning flight from india

Question

Hi, I am currently in USA and planning to visit china while returning flight from India in December. My layover in china is about 12 hours so planning to go out in beijing city for atleast 6-8 hours. I believe I need to apply for Tourist (L). I am planning to apply it from here USA by visiting China embassy here. I want to know the fees here to apply in US. As I am an indian citizen and on Visa in US. And how long before I need to apply?Thanks.

You may need to pay USD30 per person for the application. Usually, you are advised to make the application one month prior to your trip.
