Can we buy train tickets online and request lower bunks?

Next month we will be in Xi'an, and then we plan to go to Dunhuang. We want to take an overnight hard sleeper train. Can we buy the train tickets on our own online? And we want lower bunks. Thanks.

You can buy the train tickets on the official website (12306), but it does not support the seat chosen service. However, I suggest you to buy the tickets at the ticket office at the railway station on arrival at Xi'an so that you can choose your preferred bunks.
