About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Our cruise ship stops in Shanghai for 2 days

Our cruise ship will be stopping in Shanghai for 2 days and will then depart for Japan. Can we get a 72 hour free transit whilst in Shanghai??

Yes as long as the port of call before Shanghai is not also Japan.

Thank you for your reply.
Our cruise leaves Yokohama, we sail to Shanghai, leave for Naha Japan and then onto Hong Kong for the rest of the cruise.

That is considered Japan > China > Japan so a visa will be necessary.

So that is Japan-China-Japan which is not a transit and therefore transit without visa does not apply. You must get a visa in advance.
