About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is a Hong Kong stop over regarded as a visit to a Chinese city

We fly Dublin to Seoul then return via Shanghai for 4 day stop over. On returning to Dublin we fly Shanghai to Hong Kong ( connecting flight) then on to Dublin. I am assuming that our Hong Kong stop over is not regarded as a visit to another Chinese area and that the visa waiver applies?
