About:Visa on Arrival

If I have a Chinese one entry visa and want to go check out hongkong for 1 day and then come back

Can I get a visa on arrival or do I have to stay out of the country for a specific amount of time?

No, you don't need. But the visa on arrival can only allow you to stay in Shenzhen for 5 days.
