About:Overstaying in China & Penalty

We fly to Shanghai stay one night in a hotel en leave next morning (29-10-2018) by cruiseship

We stay one night in Shanghai; do we need a visa?

If you will go to a third country or region different from the last one you come from after transiting in Shanghai, you are able to use the free transit in there. No visa will be needed.
