You qualify for the 72h twov in Guangzhou in both ways. No visa will be needed for that trip.

The second transit G would be from Vietnam.
It states the visa is available for people from a list of 53 countries... does this mean my country of origin OR where I am inbounding from (ie Vietnam which is NOT one of the 53 countries listed)?

Your passport must be from one of the 53 countries. It doesn’t matter where you arrive from.
