Honk Kong to UK - Two night stopover in Shanghai

My son and I are planning to stop off in Shanghai for two nights on route back from Honk Kong. Will the 72hr free transit apply as we are flying from Hong Kong?

Hong Kong > Shanghai > UK is allowed as long as Shanghai is the only stop in China and you don't return through Hong Kong after arriving in Shanghai . Its a 144 hour transit now instead if 72 so time allowed for the stop has doubled.
