Flying into Beijing for 1 overnight hotel stay then bus to tianjin cruise terminal for depararture

Australian flying from Sydney to Beijing for 1 night stay in hotel then next day bus or train to Tianjin cruise terminal for ship departure to Japan and onwards to Singapore. Is 72 hour visit allowable or do we require full visa.
