Residence permit. Is there a fixed period like 1 year or is it up to us to decide?

Hi,

If I were to apply for the student residential permit and will be studying in China University for 2 semester, how Long will the residential permit be valid?

Usually, the Chinese temporary residence permit may valid for at least one year. Just for reference.
