I am 66 years old. I plan to climb Hua Shan in September.

I have read about climbers who have made the climb to the top in 4 to 5 hours. I will go much slower and at my own pace. However, when I get to the top, are there hostels or places to stay at the top? I have read there are some hostels and hotels but if they are all at the bottom then would I have to turn around and come back down to stay overnight and then ascend the next day on the cable car to explore the places at the tops of the peaks or can I stay overnight at the summit after climbing all day?

Yes, of course you can stay overnight on the top and there are several hotels on the mountain. But they are a little expensive and the equipment and service are not very good.

Is it necessary to book the hostel in advance? Do you have maybe a name of a accomodation?
Thank you very much for your help!

Yes, it’s necessary to book a room in advance. I remember a Wuyunfeng Hotel near East Peak is okay.
