Singapore Passport with less than 6 months entry to China

I have just under 6 months (5.5) left on my Singapore passport and need to go to China before I can renew my passport. Generally you need more than 6 months validity to travel. Anyone know if this is the case for Singaporean passports into China for less than the normal visa free 15 days?
