About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying to shanghai via Hong Kong then boarding cruise ship

we fly from Cairns to Shanghai via Hong Kong (transit)' stay in Shanghai for less than 144 hours then board a cruise ship. Will we be allowed to board the Hong Kong Airlines plane in Cairns with just our passport and cruise ticket?

As long as the cruise ships first port is not china then you will be eligible to fly from Hong Kong to Shanghai for the 144 hour transit without visa. If cruise stops at another port in china the answer could change. For instance cruise Shanghai > Japan/Korea is ok
