About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Denied boarding at airport

I was denied boarding at the airport (London) with Air China flight due to scheduled stops in two Chinese city’s on way to Sydney. Landing in Shanghai at 6:45am 30th Dec, domestic flight to Beijing and final departure from Beijing to Sydney at 1:20am on the 31st Dec. I and the travel agency are extremely confused as these hours are within the 24 hour transit visa and I hold a UK passport. The airline staff at the airport have informed that once you go from one port to another the 24 hour policy is nulled and it is 00:00 to 00:00 policy so my flight departing from Beijing was 1 hour and 20 minutes to late to be valid for boarding.

Air China have passed me from one team to another who all refuse responsibility. Has anyone experienced something similar or know anything about this? Anything will help!!

You were wrongfully denied boarding because your itinerary is excellent example of eligible 24 hour visa free transit scheme. You are allowed to have more than one stop in China and also 24 hour visa free transit is not based on 00:00 to 00:00 policy, but only and definitely only on the scheduled arrivals/departures. The explanations you have received are pure insanity and have nothing to do with the real rules and the reality that is freely used by all the citizenship of this world on their route via China.

You can check yourself the eligibility of your itinerary at National Immigration administration website where they have instituted even a chat option in English language. There you will get a confirmation of the eligibility of your itinerary for certain.

I am so sorry to hear about such an incompetence of the airport staff. It would have been enough if they only have given a short call to their Chinese colleagues and everything could have been resolved within a couple of minutes and you would have been allowed to board the plane without any doubt.

I recommend you to immediately write/contact to Air China and to ask for a compensation because you were denied your very right. I am really sorry to read the situations as it is yours because you were well informed and those in charge were totally incompetent.
