About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

do they need reasons for transit ?

as I am visiting my mum for 6 days in shanghai, can I do 144 hours without visa ? The route is
UK-Shanghai-HKG-UK

That's fine as long as your UK-Shanghai flight does not stop in Hong Kong or mainland China, and your passport qualifies.
