Qualification for 144 hour transit visa

My husband and I are traveling to China for only 72 hours. We have a flight from New York to Shanghai, once we land in Shanghai we have a flight to Beijing (flight is 3 hours after we land) We stay in Beijing 2 and a half days and leave to Bali from Beijing. Do we qualify for the 144 hour transit visa exemption?

Sorry, you do not qualify. You can choose to transit in either Shanghai or Beijing, but not both of them.
