About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Guangzhou Transit Visa for Thai National

I've travelled via Guangzhou previously and taken advantage of the 24 hour twov including the generous hotel room etc compliments of China Southern. I really enjoyed my quick visit and would love to repeat soon. I read that my wife (who is an Australian Permanent Resident but currently has a Thai passport) needs to apply for entry permit as Thais do not satisfy TWOV, VOA etc. Please advise the simplest visa for Thai person on a <24 hour Guangzhou transit. Are there any relaxations or changes to this situation likely in 2018-19?

Thank you Paul, is your answer based upon personal experience?

I do not trust the information provided above having had a problem at Guangzhou previously, but as stated in above table (I've copied relevant section below) this recent info suggests 'most' aliens would be eligible for the 24 Hour TMOW. As you allude to with your G Visa advice, this was not what I was told by Guangzhou Immigration Police recently. Confusing but perhaps there is a translation issue, or else the rules change at short notice.

Differences among 24/72/144-Hour Free Transit

24-Hour TWOV
- For almost all countries
- Available in most Chinese cities
- By air, cruise, train
- Counted from the landing time
- Multiple stops

Thai passport is not eligible for the 24/72/144 transits and residency is not taken into account. The following passports are not eligible:

Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Yemen passports.

L (tourist) visa may work in place of G (transit)

Kevin, wonder if it's error on the 24 hour page because i too would expect a 72/144 hr countries to be eligible for the 24 as well.

@kevin, i thought it was odd United Arab Emirates does qualify for 72/144 hours but not under 24, unless that is an error.
