About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Thai passport

Greetings!

I am a Thai passport holder with a European permanent residency.
I would like to book a flight with AirChina with a transit in Beijing of approx. 14 hours and wishing to spend the day in Beijing. I am aware of the TWOV of 24 hours but does this also allow me to clear immigration and get out of the airport? Or would I have to arrange another kind of transit visa before booking the flight?

Best,
C

You are correct when you say that you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. Now, in order to exit the airport, since your layover is a long one, you will approach transit counter immediately upon your landing in Beijing where you will apply for a temporary entry permit. This application is for free. I would say that your chances to be granted a permit are almost certain. Otherwise, to be 100% certain, you would require a Chinese visa obtained in advance.

There is one additional detail... If you are traveling after March 1 of this year, you as Thai citizens will not need a visa for China at all, so you will just proceed to immigration and exit the airport visa and permit free.
