Extend x1 visa

Hello, I am on an x1 on a fellowship. I am accepted as a Master Student but the admission is not out yet, not until August I guess. I want to stay in China in the meantime, while I wait for the admission. But my X1 will expire at the end of July? Is there any way to extend my stay?
