Hong Kong entry on Chinese Mainland Visa

Hi, I'm applying for a student X to study in Shenzhen, China. It is recommended to go to shenzhen via Hong Kong, as there are no direct flights to shenzhen. Can I enter Hong Kong on a Chinese Mainland entry permit? I will also need to visit Hong Kong during my stay in Shenzhen for a year.
