About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

Student X is still active, but I am not going to study.. do I need a new visa?

I studied in China for some time in college, and got a 5 year student X with multiple entries (it is good until 2020). However, I am no longer a student (I am now a Chinese teacher) and was hoping to take a trip to China. Will I need a new entry permit if mine is still active despite not being enrolled in a school program in China?

Hi, Bryant, as long as your current Chinese student X type is still valid, you can use it to visit mainland China, I supposes. No need to apply for a new one. If you are still worried, you can call the China embassy or consulate to confirm that.

I have called a few locations but it seems no one knows a definitive answer... DC suggested that I get a new visa to avoid a potential problem, NY told me I needed a new one, and the San Francisco office seems to be completely offline (all extensions go to voicemail for the past two days? And yes I am aware of the time difference).

Is this definitely doable or not? I am on a budget so trying to avoid unnecessary additional payments but it would obviously be worth it if I would not be able to enter the country without it. The lack of official confirmation is stressful so I am unsure of who to listen to!
