If I extend my X2 visa can I leave China?

I know I can extend my X2 at the exit and entry office. But I would like to travel out of China for a month. Does anybody know if that is possible? Or when extending you are still not allow to leave China otherwise the entry permit is cancelled? Thanks in advanced.
