11-hour layovver in Shanghai

I am a holder of a Philippine passport and am travelling to the United States on US tourist entry permit, with an 11-hour layover in Shanghai. I would like to take one of those short layover tours of Shanghai that I saw on the net. Do I need a transit G?

Entry to China is at the discretion of the immigration officer if not holding a visa. If you want to be 100% sure, you need a transit visa.

Thank you for your reply. Just one more question: I am planning to book the 5 to 6-hour tour in Shanghai during my 11-hour layover. Assuming that I get a transit G or an approval by the immigration officer at PVG, would be it more advisable to check in for the connecting flight before I get out of the airport for the tour or would it be difficult to get in line when I reenter the airport for a post-tour check-in?

Check-in for many flights do not open until about three to four hours prior to departure; however, if you have onward boarding passes and your luggage is checked to your final destination, there's no need to check in.
