what was the history of shanghai

SH got its name from Song Dynasty and from then on, it became a new important port.
Till Qing Dynasty, it became the largest port and transportation center of China. After the war in 1842, it was opened to other foreign countries, so merchants of British, France, US and Germany began to move into this city and set their business there.
Until 1930, it was established as an independent city and in 1936, it was an one of the largest city in China. From them on, China developed fast and become the city what we see now.
