Applying for Japanese visa on short term visa?

Do you absolutely have to provide a residence permit to apply for a Japanese tourist L from China? I'll be going to China with either a tourist L or a short term X2 and want to visit Japan as tourism for less than 15 days.

Hi, maybe you don't have to provide Chinese residence permit for the application. You are advised to contact the Japan embassy to confirm this beforehand.
