Leaving Mainland to Hong Kong

Hello, I am from the United States. I will be traveling from US to Shanghai, Shanghai to Beijing, Beijing to Hong Kong, and Hong Kong back to US on the same trip. Since I am flying directly from Hong Kong to US going back, I don't need a multiple entry visa. Is that correct?

If you have a US passport you can apply for a 10-year multiple entry visa with no extra charge. Don't go for a single entry visa as it costs the same with the 10-year one.

But in case you only got single entry, your route does not require a multiple entry visa.
