About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Canadian in China for 2 nights

I'll be going into China on land from Hong Kong. Staying 2 nights then going back on land to Hong Kong.
Do I need a visa as I'm Canadian and it will be less than 72 hours?

Yes, you need it because HK-China-HK is not a transit.

I've done some research. I can get a 5 day visa to Shenzhen at the border for HKD215.

For Canadians it's about 500+ CNY, and that can buy you a multi-year visa when applying in Canada (valid for the remaining validity of your passport). Shenzhen VOA is of especially poor value to Canadians, Americans, British, Israelis and Argentines as these countries' citizens are eligible for multi-year visas at the same cost when applying in their home countries.
