About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

What if you are a passport holder from one of the 53 countries but born in Taiwan?

In speaking with the immigration office in Beijing, one would still be eligible in this circumstance, but the decision is ultimately left up to the border agent. Does anyone know of others in this situation, and whether they were granted access or rejected?

According to the rules, as long as you are from one of 53 countries, you are eligible, no matter where you were born.

Of course it can be a problem as you´re a taiwanese born and if you have bad luck they´ll ask for your taiwanese mainland travel permit and don´t care about your canadian passport.
You never know what the officer on duty will decide.

Actually, Mainland China has a policy of asking Taiwanese whether they hold other citizenship on the Taiwan Compatriot Permit application, because for some reason people with non-Taiwanese citizenship are ineligible for the permit and must apply for a tourist visa on their non-Taiwanese passport (this was never the case for Chinese-descent Hong Kong and Macau residents and they are always eligible for Home Return Permits regardless of what passport they hold). As a result, most Taiwanese travel agencies will not even accept these applications because they know that they will be refused anyway.
