About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hong-Kong - Beijing - UK via Hong Kong

I want to use the 72 or 144h transit visa to visit Beijing on the way back to the UK from Hong Kong. This will involve a flight from HK to Beijing, then Beijing to the UK with a short stop (few hours) in Hong Kong. Does the Hong Kong stop mean we can't use the transit visa? We're flying to Manchester, there don't seem to be any direct flights there from Beijing. Thanks.

Hk - Beijing - HK is not a transit at all so you don´t qualify for the 144h twov.
Why don´t you fly from Macau to Beijing and then back to HK?
That would be fine.
