M vs. F

Dear, I as an US citizen applied for F as requested by a Chinese university for research funding activities b/w the university and me. Their invitation letter specifies the research funding as the purpose of my trip. However the New York China consulate issued a 10-year M visa for me. I am not sure of whether the Chinese university accepts M for their intended objective, given that they suggested me to get "F". Even if I chose "non-business" trip and specified F as my pursued one in my application, the consulate issued M to me. Will I need to apply for F again?

Hi, Song, personally I think you can use the 10 year M type to visit mainland China. No need to apply for an F type again.

You could enter mainland by using the 10 year M type. As your school suggested you to get "F", you are advised to contact your school to inquire if the M type is accepted before your trip.
