About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can I use this 72 hour visa free transit if I'm not flying on to a 3rd country?

My Canadian friend is currently working in China. She has broken her foot and needs to get back to Canada as she has no assistance in China. I want to fly from Vancouver to Guilin via Shanghai to assist her in getting back to Canada. I can do this within 72 hours. Can I use this 72 hour free transit even though I'm not in transit to a 3rd country, but actually flying round trip?

To clarify,
My flight would be Vancouver to Guilin with a layover in Shanghai for 4 hours.

You have to apply for a visa in advance as you´re not in transit.
