About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

May have screwed up for free transit

Jumped on a good business fare from the USA-NRT-PEK, then PEK-NRT, then NRT-USA. I've used the 72-hr visa before in Shanghai, and figured it would work for this scenario also. But then read this page and found it needs to be Country A - China - Country C. Can I make it work for my situation? The stop in Japan is just a plane change before coming to Beijing, so could I say that I had come from the USA, and was going to depart to Japan?

If that doesn't work (I'm not really expecting that it would), could I book a PEK-ICN round trip for one of the days in China, thereby arriving from Japan (on my original itinerary), and departing for S. Korea? And then do the same thing in reverse when coming back from S. Korea, arriving from ICN, and departing for Japan on the original ticket?

Thanks...

Yes, it will work only if you add a side trip to ICN or HKG etc. You have to fly it too, of course. Or you could get a visa.

Thanks Rob. The part I didn't mention is that this trip is next week, so unfortunately there won't be time to get a visa. Looks like I'll be seeing more of Seoul and less of Beijing this time hah
