I'm visiting China as a turist and then I'm going to study...

I'm going to China on June 20th as a tourist and I'll leave the 25th to visit other countries in Asia.I already have a valid Chinese visa for 10 years. I'm going back from my trip on July 8th to Shanghai where I'm planing to do an internship and/or study Mandarin from July 9th to August 31st. On August 31st I'll start my fall semester at NYU Shanghai. Is it possible to get my student X without losing my tourist L?
